INTREPID CLUB DIRECTOR

Becky Luzier
Ms. Becky Luzier is the Head Women’s Coach at Bethel Park High School. She is an eight year coaching veteran who has been featured in US Lacrosse Magazine and is a former Co-President of the women’s arm of WPSLA. She coached previously in Morgantown, WV where she helped start the girls’ middle school program and was part of West Virginia’s campaign for its own US Lacrosse chapter. Becky has also worked for Three Rivers Lacrosse, coaching multiple teams during the indoor season and participated in 2009’s Girls Lacrosse Spring Training at Southpointe for area middle and high school players. INTREPID COACH COODINATOR

Adriane LaRussa
Coach Coordinator – Ms. Adriane LaRussa is the varsity head coach at Shady Side Academy. She was the assistant coach of the Duquesne University women’s lacrosse team in 2006. She began coaching lacrosse in 2000 as a team coordinator with Three Rivers Lacrosse indoor league and she has continued coaching at Taylor-Allderdice HS, and later Winchester Thurston HS where she coached the varsity and junior varsity teams for a total of seven seasons.

Larussa was on staff for the 2003 US scholar-athlete games and 2006 world games in Kingston, RI. She served as head middle school coach for Intrepid and has served as a director and coach for Pittsburgh All-Stars Lacrosse and WPSLA all-stars. She has been an at-large board member for the Pittsburgh Chapter of US Lacrosse since 2000 and is the middle school girls league president of WPSLA, a position she has held since 2001. She served as a volunteer during the 2005 IFWLA World Cup in Annapolis, MD.

Gary Neft
Coach and Recruiting Coordinator – Mr. Gary Neft played at Ohio Wesleyan University and is the Owner and President of Queen City Lacrosse. Coach Neft is the Founder and Commissioner of the Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse League and is the Head Women’s Coach at the University of Pittsburgh.

2012 TEAM

Brian Kattan
Coach – Mr. Brian Kattan is the Varsity Women’s Head Coach at Mt. Lebanon High School. This will be Brian's 5th year coaching for Intrepid. Brian has been involved with Girl's Lacrosse in Western PA for 13 years at the middle school and high school levels, and he is also the girl’s USL National Team coach, which he has done for the past two years.
Coach – Ms. Kate Scattergood is the Head Coach at Washington & Jefferson College and began the program in 2008. Kate formerly coached at both Susquehanna University and Roanoke College and is a graduate of Shippensburg University where she was a three time all-conference attacker. Kate has also been involved with Intrepid since 2008.
Katy Phillips
Coach and Recruiting Coordinator – Ms. Katy Phillips played at Mt. Lebanon and went onto a successful lax-career at the University of New Hampshire. Coach Phillips is the co-owner of 3RL and is the Head Coach of the Robert Morris University Colonials.
Shannon Hadaway
Coach – Ms. Shannon Hadaway is the Head Coach at North Allegheny High School where she has guided them to the playoffs for the first time in many years. She graduated from Duquesne University in 2008, where she earned 2008 Atlantic 10 second team all-conference and she was named to the 2008 IWLCA honor roll.

2013 TEAM

Emily Boosahda
Coach – Ms. Emily Hopkins joins us for her second season at Intrepid. She has recently completed her third season as The Slippery Rock University head women’s lacrosse coach. Emily joined The Rock staff as assistant field hockey and lacrosse coach in August 2007 and was elevated to the position of Head Lacrosse Coach three months later. Emily earned both her bachelor of science (2004) and master of education (2006) degrees from Springfield, where she played three seasons of lacrosse and one season of soccer.
 
Coach – Jen Perestock is currently the Head Lacrosse Coach at Shaler HS.  She began her lacrosse career at Hampton High School and was then awarded a scholarship to play at St. Vincent College.  While at St. Vincent College she played four years as a starting center and received her BA in Psychology Education, with minors & certifications in Elementary and Early Childhood Education.

Following college, Coach Perestock served as the Assistant Lacrosse and Field Hockey coach in the Greater Latrobe School District, directed and coached numerous lacrosse clinics and served as an Assistant Coach at St. Vincent College.  She then accepted the position as Head Lacrosse Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at Wilson College.  At Wilson, she designed, constructed, and established a new successful women's lacrosse program from the ground up.  While at Wilson, she also attained a Master of Education.  Jen currently works as a classroom assistant in the autistic support room at Allegheny Valley School District, coaches at Shaler HS and will be coaching with Intrepid for the first time.

2014 TEAM

Tom Zacoi
Coach – Mr. Tom Zacoi is currently the Head Coach of Chartiers Valley HS, where he has guided them to the playoffs for the first time in school history. He previously coached middle and high school players in Peters Township as well as in Upper St. Clair. While a member of the US Lacrosse Youth Council, he earned Level I and Level II Coaching Certification. Zacoi was the 2007 Middle School Coach of the Year and was given the prestigious 2007 Impact Award from US Lacrosse for his work on behalf of women's lacrosse throughout Western-PA. Coach Zacoi is a PIAA/USL Women's Umpire, coaches for 3RL, Directs Spring Training at the Iceoplex and owns The Ball Stops Here Girls' Lacrosse Club.
Coach – Ms. Julie Buschman is from Northern Virginia where she graduated from Annandale High School in 2004. She went on to play midfield for the D1 James Madison University Dukes for four years. During that time, she helped her team win a CAA championship and make an appearance in the NCAA tournament. She graduated in 2009 with a degree in elementary education. Julie is currently the assistant coach at Mt. Lebanon High School. This is her first season as an Intrepid coach.

INTREPID MS TEAM

Rachel McGregor
Coach – Ms. Rachel McGregor has been coaching with Intrepid Lacrosse for three years. Over the past six years, she has coached and helped to develop the girls' lacrosse program at North Hills at the middle school and high school levels, and currently serves as the Head Coach of the varsity program, guiding the team to their first, and several, playoff appearances. She is an executive board member of the Pittsburgh Chapter of US Lacrosse and Vice President of the Coaches' Association. Rachel holds coaching certifications from US Lacrosse and the American Sport Education Program.
Coach – Mrs. Natalie Melnik (formerly Shore) played women’s lacrosse for the competitive D1 program at James Madison University from 2001- 2005. After graduating with her MS in education in 2006, she has been working in education and coaching high school lacrosse. Since moving to the Pittsburgh in the fall of 2008, she has been an assistant coach at Peters Township HS for the past 2 seasons. She currently works as an academic consultant for the Allegheny Intermediate unit in Homestead, PA. She is looking forward to working with the intrepid program this year!

TEAM EVOLUTION

Rachel Cibulas
Coach – Ms. Rachel Cibulas is currently assistant head coach Bethel Park High School and serves as the events chair for the Western Pennsylvania Girls Lacrosse Coaches Association(WPGLCA). Rachel previously coached at the collegiate level for both Adrian College (07-08) and Slippery Rock University (08-09). Cibulas played college lacrosse at Robert Morris University and was the first player to sign a letter of intent with the RMU women’s lacrosse program. A two-year letter winner for the Colonials, Cibulas served as team captain in both the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons. Rachel is level 1 and level 2 certified through US Lacrosse.
Coach – Ms. Erika Walker is originally from Glenn Dale, Maryland and played four years of lacrosse at McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland College) as a defensive midfielder. Upon graduation in 2006, she accepted a position with the English Lacrosse Association as a school coaching officer at Malvern College (Worcestershire, England). She was in charge of coaching and teaching seven different age groups of lacrosse players and coached the senior team to a second place finish at the National Small Schools Tournament. Erika is currently an assistant coach at Robert Morris University and working on a master’s degree in business administration.

GOAL KEEPER COACHES

Bruce Phillips
Coach – Mr. Bruce Phillips For the last 15 years Coach Phillips has coached lacrosse for both boys and girls at every level from middle school to division I college. Currently he is an assistant coach at Robert Morris University - Women's Lacrosse. He was on the staff that helped guide the Mt Lebanon High School boys lacrosse teams to WPIAL championships and participation in the state playoffs in 2008 and 2009. He has been a staff coach at both the Notre Dame and University of Michigan lacrosse camps. Coach Phillips works for Three Rivers Lacrosse (Out of season women's lacrosse events) where he is an administrator.
Coach – Mr. Tim Hastings was an All-American at Towson State University. He was the Assistant Women’s Coach at Johns Hopkins and played professionally for the Washington Wave. Coach Hastings helped found the Hero’s Girls’ Lacrosse Club in Baltimore, MD. He is currently the boy’s Head Coach at Sewickley Academy and an Assistant Coach at the University of Pittsburgh. Tim was the goalie for the USA #1 Team at the Grand Master I Level for the 2006 World Cup Festival held in Canada.


Coach – Ms. Sarah Jane Magan is the Assistant Varsity Lacrosse Coach and also coaches the JV at The Ellis School. She has coached girl’s lacrosse and field hockey for the past six years in the Philadelphia area and in the Pittsburgh area. She graduated from The Ellis School as a three sport athlete and then played four years of lacrosse at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia. Sarah Jane is a registered PIAA official and runs her own certified personal training business, Three Rivers Sculpting.


Jess Melby
Coach – Ms. Jess Melby graduated from Upper St. Clair HS in 2009. She played on the 2009 intrepid team, Upper Atlantic team, and made first team All WPIAL honors two years in a row. She now plays for D1 Davidson College.
Coach – Ms. Liz Walker was a member of the 2007 Intrepid Lacrosse team and graduated from Quaker Valley High School in 2007. She was recruited to play lacrosse at Duquesne University where she is majoring in athletic training. In her freshmen season she was rookie of the week two weeks in a row and was voted onto the 2008 all rookie team. Currently, Liz is an assistant coach for the varsity lacrosse team at Quaker Valley high school.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the club is to promote the growth of girls’ lacrosse, and to field competitive teams by developing advanced playing skills, game knowledge, confidence, responsible decision-making, teamwork and good sportsmanship.

This mission will be accomplished by retaining inspirational and dedicated coaches who will professionally and consistently teach the modern game; treat every player with dignity and respect; and recruit the best players, encourage teamwork, stress physical fitness and strive to make Intrepid a fun-filled and positive experience for all members.
