2008 SEASON INTREPID COACHES

INTREPID COACH CONSULTANTS

Coach – Mr. Michael Scerbo is the Head Women's Lacrosse Coach at Division I Duquesne University. Scerbo spent the past four years as an assistant at Ohio State. While at Ohio State, he helped guide the Buckeyes to a pair of NCAA tournament appearances (2002 & 2003) and one American Lacrosse Conference title (2003). Prior to his move to Columbus, OH, Scerbo served as the Head Women's Lacrosse Coach at Limestone College in Gaffney, SC for five seasons.

Professionally, Mike has chaired the IWLCA Division II Coaches' Poll Committee and was also a member of the NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Committee. He played a vital role in the development of the newly formed NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse National Tournament, which debuted in 2001. Scerbo, who is regarded as one of the bright, up-and-coming women's lacrosse coaches in the country, was nominated by his coaching peers for the prestigious IWLCA National Division II Coach of the Year award in 2001.

INTREPID 2009 TEAM

Gary Neft
Coach – Mr. Gary Neft played at Ohio Wesleyan University and is the Owner and President of Queen City Lacrosse. Coach Neft is the Founder and Commissioner of the Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse League and is the Head Women’s Coach at the University of Pittsburgh.
Coach – Ms. Lisa Vacca is the Assistant Women’s Coach at Robert Morris University and the Coach at Quaker Valley Middle School. She also works for 3RL during the off-season. Lisa was named 2005 WPSLA Middle School Girls’ Coach of the Year.

INTREPID 2010 TEAM

Courtney Santelli
Coach – Ms. Courtney Santelli was a standout player for the Lady Wildcats at Ohio University. She is the former Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Shady Side Academy and is currently the women’s Assistant Head Coach at the University of Pittsburgh.
Kate Scattergood
Coach – Ms. Kate Scattergood is currently developing the Women’s Lacrosse Program at Washington & Jefferson College, which will begin competition in the 2008 season. She previously served as Head Lacrosse Coach and Strength & Conditioning Coach at Susquehanna University from 2002-2006. Coach Scattergood is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and has previously served the IWLCA on Division 3 regional committees. She played collegiate lacrosse at Shippensburg University, where she was a three-year team captain and three-time first team All-PSAC selection on attack.
Katy Phillips
Coach – Ms. Katy Phillips played at Mt. Lebanon and went onto a successful lax-career at the University of New Hampshire. Coach Phillips is the co-owner of 3RL and is the Head Coach of the Robert Morris University Colonials.

INTREPID 2011 TEAM

Cheryl Ann Lassen
Coach – Ms. Cheryl Ann Lassen is the Head Coach at Sewickley Academy and was an All-American at Slippery Rock University. Coach Lassen has hosted the USLacrosse Women’s National Team Clinic, as well as the Sewickley Academy Junior Varsity Playday since 1998. She has won four MSLA and five WPSLA championships, and is a member of the Western-Pennsylvania Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
Brian Kattan
Coach – Mr. Brian Kattan is the Varsity Women’s Assistant Coach at
Mt. Lebanon High School.

INTREPID 2012 TEAM

Joseph Ahearn
Coach – Mr. Joseph Ahearn has been coaching girls’ lacrosse for over twelve years. He began coaching in the Kelly Post Lacrosse Club in Baltimore, MD before relocating to Pittsburgh in 1996. For the past five years he has been the coach for Sewickley Academy’s varsity team during the winter pre-season indoor schedule. His two daughters, Lauren and Olivia, have played for Intrepid. Olivia plays for Sewickley Academy and Lauren was a three-time high school All-American and MVP at Sewickley Academy.
Brian Klisavage
Coach – Mr. Brian Klisavage is the head coach at Seton-LaSalle Catholic High School. He has been teaching and coaching girls lax at Seton-LaSalle for ten years. Brian was named the 2007 WPIAL Coach of the Year.
Coach – Ms. Karyn Brooks was the leading scorer her first year on Slippery Rock University’s women’s lacrosse team. She is the former Head Varsity Coach at Seneca Valley High School, where in her six years she developed their program from the bottom up, leaving them with Section Titles in both 2006 and 2007 and an undefeated section season in 2007. Currently, she is the Head Coach at North Allegheny High School.

INTREPID II TEAM

Tom Zacoi
Coach – Mr. Tom Zacoi coached middle and high school players in Peters Township as well as in Upper St. Clair. While a member of the US Lacrosse Youth Council he earned Level I and Level II Coaching Certification. Zacoi was the 2007 Middle School Coach Of The Year and was given the prestigious 2007 Impact Award from US Lacrosse for his work on behalf of women's lacrosse throughout Western-PA. Coach Zacoi is a PIAA/USL Women's Umpire, coaches for 3RL, Directs Spring Training at the Iceoplex and owns The Ball Stops Here Girls' Lacrosse Club.
Coach – Ms. Erika Walker is originally from Glenn Dale, Maryland and played four years of lacrosse at McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland College) as a defensive midfielder. Upon graduation in 2006, she accepted a position with the English Lacrosse Association as a school coaching officer at Malvern College (Worcestershire, England). She was in charge of coaching and teaching seven different age groups of lacrosse players and coached the senior team to a second place finish at the National Small Schools Tournament. Erika is currently an assistant coach at Robert Morris University and working on a master’s degree in business administration.
Coach – Ms. Anne Murray was a two time All-American at Mt. Lebanon High School and has finished a successful lacrosse playing season at Princeton University. Ms. Murray was the head coach of the Ultimate Lacrosse 2011 Club Team in Philadelphia last year. She is a phenomenal player and coach, and will work at various lax-camps throughout Western-PA this summer.

INTREPID MS TEAM

Adriane LaRussa
Coach – Ms. Adriane LaRussa is the Asst. to the Director of Athletics at Winchester Thurston School. She was the assistant coach of the Duquesne University women’s lacrosse team last season. She began coaching lacrosse in 2000 as a team coordinator with Three Rivers Lacrosse indoor league and at Taylor-Allderdice High School where she coached the varsity and junior varsity teams for four seasons.

LaRussa was on staff for the 2003 U.S. Scholar-Athlete Games and 2006 World Games in Kingston, RI. She serves as Head Middle School Coach for Intrepid Girls’ Lacrosse Club and has served as a director and coach for Pittsburgh All-Stars Lacrosse and Western PA Scholastic Lacrosse Association (WPSLA) All-Stars. She has been an at-large board member for the Pittsburgh Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse since 2000 and is the Middle School Girls League President of WPSLA, a position she has held since 2001. She served as a volunteer during the 2005 IFWLA World Cup in Annapolis, MD.
Rachel McGregor
Coach – Ms. Rachel McGregor graduated from North Hills High School and is heavily involved with their lacrosse program on all levels, including her position as head coach of the middle school team for the past three years. Upon graduation, carrying MVP defensive honors, she was scouted by Division II Bloomsburg University, and recently served as lacrosse coordinator and coach at an athletic summer camp in Maryland. She currently attends Chatham University.

INTREPID GOALIES

Coach – Ms. Jane Karger is a senior goal keeper for Mount St. Mary's University where she will graduate in May 2008. She has been a four-year starter in goal. During that time, the team has won two NEC regular season championships and one NEC tournament championship. This season Jane is a team captain and she has also been named Academic All-Conference. She has coached several lacrosse camps and clinics for schools such as Mount St. Mary's and Salisbury University along with this being the third year coaching Intrepid.
Coach – Mr. Tim Hastings was an All-American at Towson State University. He was the Assistant Women’s Coach at Johns Hopkins and played professionally for the Washington Wave. Coach Hastings helped found the Hero’s Girls’ Lacrosse Club in Baltimore, MD, and is currently an Assistant Coach at the University of Pittsburgh. Tim was the goalie for the USA #1 Team at the Grand Master I Level for the 2006 World Cup Festival held in Canada.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the club is to promote the growth of girls’ lacrosse, and to field competitive teams by developing advanced playing skills, game knowledge, confidence, responsible decision-making, teamwork and good sportsmanship.

This mission will be accomplished by retaining inspirational and dedicated coaches who will professionally and consistently teach the modern game; treat every player with dignity and respect; and recruit the best players, encourage teamwork, stress physical fitness and strive to make Intrepid a fun-filled and positive experience for all members.
